CPA FIRM KICKS OFF THIRD GENERATION OF FINANCIAL SEMINARS FOR WOMEN SERIES

Financial Literacy for Women

For the third year in a row Somerset CPAs continues to provide women with the tools necessary to understand and take control of their financial world. Through a set of free workshops open to the public, Somerset’s Financial Literacy for Women seminars are designed to cater to women of all ages and of varying levels of financial awareness in order to dismantle fears women have regarding their finances.  By providing women with the opportunity to understand their finances, Somerset proves to women that financial knowledge is not difficult to gain, but rather is a matter of being interested, asking questions and seeking opportunities available to you.

Somerset began their Financial Literacy for Women seminars in the spring of 2006 gaining attention from Indianapolis area women who were looking to take on a more active role in various financial opportunities available to them.  Initiator of Somerset’s financial based seminars, Susan E. Naus, CPA, principal on Somerset’s Entrepreneurial and Tax Teams, aimed to fill the void in the lack of financial education available to women.  Naus says that after years of meeting with married clients where only the husband attended tax and financial meetings, she realized that women, either by lack of interest or because they were comfortable with their husband’s decisions, were being left out of the decision making process regarding their own finances.  Naus explains that “during their lifetimes, either through death, divorce, or never getting married, women need to take control and/or have knowledge of their financial affairs.”

With Naus’s lead, several Somerset associates responded by creating a series of seminars for women, by women, focusing on vital aspects of financial responsibility, ranging from understanding your current financial situation, to investing, budgeting, retirement planning, and many other valuable topics.  Naus expresses that “we are beginning with the basics.  Once women get comfortable with the basics, then they are ready to move to the next step, then the next step, etc. Our goal is to get women involved with their financial affairs and help them become more knowledgeable.”

Somerset’s Financial Literacy for Women seminars begin May 14th and continue through November 12th.  For more information on seminar dates and topics, or to register to attend a seminar, click here.
